Count those steps! November 22, 2008 L. Calhoun (Tiger, GA USA) In the interest of good health, (10,000 steps a day), and a healthy dose of curiosity about how many steps I am currently walking daily, I researched different types of pedometers. Those I had tried in the past from the drug store and a then a sporting goods store "kept resetting themselves", no doubt some movement of mine or brush by something; but, this rendered them useless. I ordered the Omron. The supplier must be close, as it was here in less than 24 hours. Better yet, it works well, has not reset itself once or lost my daily count, and has a safety strap and clasp to assure that you don't lose it if it comes detached with a bump. My only reservation is that it does not count the myriad single steps you take, like in the kitchen, but only begins counting after 4 seconds of walking. For all the information received and stored, its cost was reasonable.
this has inspired me to double my daily walk to 5 miles November 22, 2008 Sherry (New York, NY) I always walked home from work, but ever since I saw how long/short that walk really is I started to walk to work as well. It brings me well over 10,000 steps a day without having to carve out more than 20 extra minutes each way. I have been inspired
Awesome Product.....Love it! November 22, 2008 Rebbielou (Arizona) Purchased this item over a month ago, and have been using it daily since then. I wore it on my waistband for a few days, but found it to be awkward, and it fell off a few times when I would bend over...also I have small children that are always pulling on me, and they love to press the buttons and reset the pedometer mid-day. My solution was to clip it to the center of my bra. I completely forget it's there, and it never falls off. I walk the same 8 mile route each morning, and my steps always calculate basically the same so I know it's accurate. This is a great item for weight loss, because it makes you very conscious of exactly how much exercise you're getting during the day. This was a great purchase!
Another Modern Marvel November 20, 2008 Sandor J. Woren (Glendale, CA) This precision device, accurately measures only one thing directly: the total number of steps taken. Although, based on your entered weight and stride length, it also calculates the approximate calories burned, the number of "aerobic" steps taken, and distance walked. Furthermore, the meter resets at midnight, and keeps a 7 day log of all this information. Granted that all variables are calculated (except total number of steps taken, By nature, they are not precise, and cannot be expected to be so. However, this is merely a limitation of physics and mathematics, not a problem with the pedometer itself. I have owned it for about two weeks, and tested it in my twice daily walk up to a local park, with a known round trip distance of 2.8 miles. This meter consistently comes pretty close to this number with every walk. It calculates, based on one's weight (which, for me, is neatly coming down), thanks to the motivational factor that this device provides. Omron is a trusted brand name for medical devices. I have owned an Omron spghymomaneter (blood pressure meter), that has served me well for years, giving accurate pulse and blood pressures. Other reviews are correct that the belt clip is not reliable. I suggest attaching a safety pin through the cord, and clipping it to your shorts, sweats, or clothing. Make it un-loseable this way, or you will probably eventually lose it. Conclusion: if you are serious about a walking exercise program, this is an extremely useful and low cost investment. Highly recommended, especially for diabetics those wishing to add exercise to the formula for lowering cardiovascular and stroke risk.
LOVE IT! November 18, 2008 Suzette (Jacksonville, FL) I have tried several pedometers over the last couple of years. I found this one to be easy to program and use. The numbers are big enough it can be read easily without my glasses. I have tested against other machines to see the accuracy of my numbers and found it to be right on the mark. I loved it so much I have bought one for my walking partner!
