A good product but more detailed instructions wouldn't hurt March 12, 2007 Gator Grad (Florida) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This gazebo is reasonably well-made and it could be set up by one person. Furthermore, in calm weather, it is free-standing(lines and metal pegs are supplied for gustier days). However, I only had access to the instructions on the side of the bag of the one I borrowed, and I think the maker does their product and their customers a disservice by overemphasizing how quick and easy assembly is. It IS easy, the SECOND time. The crucial Step 3 says "Extend the legs and push up the quick hubs and you're FINISHED". Well, half an hour later my wife I still weren't "finished". Finally, I collapsed the lower sections and PULLED up the "quick hubs" until they clicked into place and then quickly did the other three before extending the lower sections. If you're over 6 feet tall and used to pressing 125+ lbs at the gym, when you extend the lower sections may not be an issue. Finally, putting the thing away, I forgot to lower the top sections(i.e. release and lower the "quick hubs") before trying to collapse the frame and ended up damaging one of the pieces connecting two struts. I admit I was careless, but this piece could easily be replaced with an Allen wrench. However,if you think that the maker, NorthPole Ltd. is willing/able to sell you this replacement part, you'd be sadly misinformed. I can't claim there was "a defect in materials or manufacturing" so I'm stuck with replacing the whole thing or returning the gazebo to the people I borrowed it from with a roll of duct tape. In summary, this is a functional, well-designed, pretty durable product and a good value, but erecting and collapsing it is something you may want to practice before the main event.
